About Us

If you’re looking for a group that loves a good laugh just as much as a great harmony, you’ve found us. We recently updated our name from the Mid Glamorgan Mixed Choir to the Mid Glam Community Choir because "community" is exactly what we are all about!

We are a relaxed, informal group of singers ranging from our thirties right up to our eighties. While Thursday night rehearsals are always full of jokes and friendly chatter, make no mistake—when the sheet music goes up, we take immense pride in the beautiful sound we create together.

A Little History (and a Few Humble Brags!)

Our roots actually go all the way back to 1945 when we were strictly a ladies' choir. We kept it a girls-only club for over three decades, until 1979 when the incredible opportunity to sing at the Royal Albert Hall popped up. Deciding we could probably use some bass and tenor notes for a stage that big, we finally let the gents join in, and we've been a mixed choir ever since!

Since then, we’ve added some pretty spectacular venues to our resume. Aside from the Royal Albert Hall, we’ve belted it out at St David’s Hall, the Wales Millennium Centre, and even performed at the Millennium Stadium for the opening ceremony of the Ryder Cup.

We also love a good international road trip. Thanks to twinning arrangements, we’ve taken our Welsh voices overseas to sing in Plouzané, France, and Waldsassen, Bavaria, and we love returning the favor by entertaining our European friends when they visit us here.

Our Travels Around the Borough

Pencoed has always been our spiritual home. Like many groups, the pandemic forced us to shake things up, and out of necessity, we packed our sheet music and moved to the Llanharan Welfare Hall for a little while. However, we are absolutely thrilled to be officially back on home turf, filling the fantastic acoustics of St David's Church in Pencoed every Thursday evening!

Singing for a Cause

At our heart, we believe in using our voices to lift up others. Over the years, our charity concerts have raised thousands of pounds for causes close to our hearts. We’ve supported national charities like Help for Heroes, the British Heart Foundation, and the Wales Air Ambulance, alongside crucial local groups like the Chloe Bigmore Trust, Y Bwthyn, Cymorth I Cerys, and various Pencoed and Croesti primary schools.

We’ve also raised funds for a brilliant Pencoed charity tackling loneliness in the elderly, and supported Gilwern United Reformed Church in raising £2,500 for groups including the Oncology Unit at Neville Hall Hospital. Our chosen charity just before the pandemic paused our concerts was the Velindre Cancer Centre, and we remain dedicated to supporting their incredible work as we return to regular performances.

Come Be Part of the Story

Whether we are singing in a massive stadium or a local chapel, the goal is always the same: singing for the sheer joy of it.

With absolutely no auditions and your first month completely free, there has never been a better time to add your voice to our history. Come along on a Thursday, grab a seat, and let's make some music!
